What is tazlog?

tazlog is a web-based content aggregator.
By centralizing news from all the sources you care about, tazlog is your one-stop shop for reading, discovering, and archiving information. tazlog features an easy-to-use RSS reader, combined with a bookmarking tool and extensive use of tags. In addition, as your friends and colleagues also become tazlog members, tazlog builds your social network, enabling your community to share valuable information and opinions. Finally, you can share your thoughts and gather comments from the rest of the web community by publishing your ratings and comments via your personal tazlog press review.

What is an RSS feed?

An RSS feed is an XML file format used by weblogs and news sites to syndicate their content on the Internet. tazlog lets you easily aggregate the content published by your favorite news sites and weblogs. All your favorite readings are then available for you on the tazlog website.

How do I add RSS feeds?

First, you need to check that your favorite site publishes information via an RSS feed. Such sites usually will display the logo . Once you have the address of the RSS feed, simply click on + RSS Feed in the top menu and then select Add Content. You may also go directly to the add content page. Enter the RSS feed's URL, select the appropriate category for the feed and indicate who you would like to share this RSS with.

When I add content, I can choose to share the RSS feed or not, what does that mean?

If you choose to share an RSS feed with "Friends", it means that your buddies will know that you have subscribed to this feed. They will also have access to your ratings of articles belonging to this feed. If you select "everyone", then your readings and comments will be published in your press review and accessible to everyone who visits your page.

What is my press review?

Your press review is accessible at yourlogin.tazlog.com. If you rate or comment on an article you have chosen to share with everyone, it will appear on your press review page automatically. People accessing the page have the option to leave comments on articles that are posted, it is a great place to have a discussion with others.

Can I change the settings of an RSS feed?

You may modify your settings for a given RSS feed at anytime. Simply go to your RSS reader and in the menu on the left, click on the category containing the feed, then select the feed you would like to reconfigure. To the right of the tabs with dates in the center of the page, you will see a tab named "Configure". Click on the configure tab to to change the feed's settings.

Can I remove an RSS feed?

Yes. Follow the procedure described above to change settings, and click on Delete in the Configure menu.

How do I rate articles?

When you click on an article, a tazlog toolbar will appear at the top of the page. Click on the star that corresponds to your rating. No star meaning "don't bother", 3 stars "average", and 5 stars "must read". You can also directly rate an article from your RSS reader.

How do I add comments?

There are two ways: in your RSS reader, click on the comment icon under each article listed; when you are reading an article, click on the comment icon at the top of the page in the tazlog frame.

What are tags?

Tags are keywords you can associate to specific articles. You can later use them to search for articles on topics of interest.

Can I see who my buddies are?

Click on buddies in the top menu, to access your tazlog buddy page. You will see a list of your buddies, and links to their press reviews. Click on a buddy's name to view which RSS feeds they're subscribed to and who their buddies are.

Can I see my buddy's buddies, readings, and RSS feeds?

Click on your buddy's name on your tazlog buddy page to view his or her buddies. From there, click on "Readings" to view your buddy's latest readings. You may also click on "RSS" to see which RSS feeds your buddy has publicly subscribed to.

Can I invite my friends to join tazlog?

Yes. tazlog is not a simple RSS reader. Its social networking component is very important to your experience, which is why you should definitely invite your friends who share similar interests and readings. To invite your friend to become your tazlog buddy, click on "Buddies" in the top menu, then select Invite Buddies.

How can I check the status of my tazlog invitations?

Select "Buddies" from the top menu, then click on My invitations to see the status of invitations you have sent and received.

Can I send a tazlog link to someone who is not a tazlog member?

Yes. However, this person will not see the tazlog bar and therefore won't be allowed to rate the article or see your rating.

What are tazlog bookmarks?

tazlog saves your favorite sites, simply click on +Bookmark in the top menu. You can also add the tazlog bookmarklet to your browser's bookmark bar, and click on it to add tazlog bookmarks when you are visiting sites you are interested in saving. You can also share your bookmarks with everyone, your friends, or keep them private.

Can I shorten the tazlog links when I send them to friends outside of my tazlog network?
